The Indian government plans to construct a bridge over the Feni river in Southern Tripura to access Chittagong International seaport in Bangladesh. The proposed bridge will connect the town of Sabroom in southern Tripura to Ramgarh in south-eastern Bangladesh. The project aims at facilitating the transport of goods and heavy machinery to the land-locked northeastern region, and, thus saving the costs of transportation to the region. The government of Bangladesh has agreed to using Chittagong port, located 75 km from Tripura’s southern bordering town of Sabroom, for the purpose. The concerned personnel have already begun preparing the detailed project report for the construction of the 150-metre long bridge. The Central Government will fund the project under the Assistance to States for Developing Export Infrastructure and Allied Activities (ASIDE) scheme to ensure the construction is in compliance with the international standards. |
