The real estate arm of Godrej Group, Godrej Properties Limited (GPL) plans to launch India’s largest and first green township project, Godrej Garden City (GGC), in January 2010. Located in proximity to the Nirma University on Sarkhej- Gandhinagar Road, the project will be developed in a joint venture with local company Siddhi Group on about 225 acres of land.

To be completed in phases over the next ten years, the township will offer 20,000 dwellings, initially priced from Rs 20–35 lakh. Smaller flats priced at Rs 10 lakh will also be offered later. The first phase is expected to be complete in two years, with 500 flats in the two and three BHK categories. The township will feature the use of solar power, water recycling and harvesting, flyash bricks, gardens and a 10-acre park. Amenities such as a sports complex, club house, schools, hospitals and shopping areas are also on the cards. GPL has also signed an MoU with the Clinton Climate Initiative (CCI) programme for the township project. GGC is one of 16 real estate global projects picked by the CCI for climate positive development. Godrej is also a founding member of Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) and will thus avail of its green building ratings for GGC. |
