NPCIL’s New Haryana Power Plant

ehh... ehh... ehh... ehh... ehh...

Nuclear Power Corporation of India (NPCIL) will commence the development of its 4X700 MW nuclear power project in Haryana. Slated to be a green project with zero emissions, it will pose no health hazard from radiation. To be set up at a site between Kumharia and Gorakhpur in the Fatehabad district, the project, which is worth Rs 12,000 crore, will be based on an indigenous technology of pressurised heavy water. NCPIL will need about 500 hectares of land to develop the project and will follow the progressive relief and rehabilitation policy of the Haryana Government.

NPCIL has received in-principle approval from the Government of India for the setting up of the plant in two phases. Pre-project activity is expected to be completed early 2012. The construction of the first and second units will commence in March 2012. NPCIL has a prior track record of setting up nuclear power generation projects within 50–60 month timeframes, one of the world’s fastest execution schedules.
