Architects to Design Innovative Portico for Frick Collection

The Frick Collection, a world-renowned art gallery in New York, is planning to redesign the portico on the north side of its Fifth Avenue garden. The renovation will involve designing and constructing a glass enclosure to cover its north portico. The design part of the project will be handled by Davis Brody Bond Aedas, a New York-based firm which provides architectural, planning, programming, preservation, interiors, consultation and collaborative services. The New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission will approve the design prior to its implementation.

According to the architects associated with the project, the design for the project will be minimally invasive with a series of glass enclosures which could be removed without disturbing the existing architecture. The remodelled space will display over 100 specimens of rare porcelains from an anonymous collector. The donor’s trust will also bear the cost of the renovation project.
