AIA Unveils Innovative Architectural Utility to Predict Energy Use

The American Institute of Architects (AIA) unveiled a new tool that can generate a report on estimated energy use and project modelling for constructions. The tool will generate reports in Excel after analysing a few vital data inputs such as project use type, gross square footage (GSF), and other aspects of the project, such as its predicted energy use intensity (PEUI).

Based on the information fed into the system, the tool will automatically calculate the average site Energy Use Intensity (EUI) for the project, along with its percentage reduction from the standard EUI that has been set as the firm’s 2030 goal for the current year. Moreover, the tool, jointly developed by AIA Committee on the Environment, the AIA Large Firm Roundtable and AIA Chicago Chapter Working Group, can be employed for any type of construction project.
