Designed by international architecture firm Kohn Pedersen Fox (KPF), the Mandarin Oriental, Las Vegas, is now officially unveiled. A 67-acre resort by MGM Mirage and Infinity World Development Corp on the renowned Las Vegas Boulevard, the Mandarin Oriental has 392 rooms and 225 condominiums.

Spread across an excess of a million square feet, the building’s podium is made of zinc, titanium, granite and limestone. Its vertical façade features traditional Chinese motifs. Panels of aluminum and glass have been vertically interlocked with horizontal frit. The building has been designed to maximise daylight in the open spaces within the hotel. The architectural plan has been formulated considering the structure’s location and height. The bejeweled ballroom which faces The Strip has a glazed opening, defined by jet-misted granite and grey zinc. Shuttle elevators, a swimming pool and spa on the sixth floor and a sky lobby on the twenty-third are some of the hotel’s other luxurious offerings. The project has obtained a LEED Gold certification and has a green climate control mechanism. A thermal façade, water reduction strategies, insulated spandrel panels and high-performance glass with a ceramic frit are some of the structure’s green features. |
