New Chad Embassy to be designed by Leo a Daly

The Washington office of Leo a Daly has been selected by the government of the Republic of Chad to provide architectural, landscape and engineering design for its new embassy. The project includes the renovation of a 40-year old building in an important site on Massachusetts Avenue in Washington.

The project is aimed at modernising the interior, exterior and landscape of the structure that was built in the 1960s. It is spread over an area of 8,300 square feet and comprises three same-sized floors above the ground, a mechanical penthouse and a full basement. The restoration will be finished in two phases. All the three floors will be renovated for creating office and meeting space and the Ambassador’s suite. The interior will have sustainable finishes, tailored detailing and lighting that will be heightened by art and craft pieces from Chad to complete the diplomatic setting of the new embassy. The ceiling will be replaced with a new heating and cooling system, and the new layout will be constructed to address diplomatic functions. New air distribution systems, lighting, fire alarm systems and data cable distribution systems will be installed. Throughout the facility, security and latest communication systems will be integrated. The exterior of the building will be constructed in such a way so as to retain its architectural character, and at the same time, ensure greater presence.
