Commemorating the birth anniversary of Frank Lloyd Wright, a noted American writer, educator, architect and designer, on June 8, the Guggenheim Museum along with Google has launched ‘Design It: Shelter Competition’. This global online programme will invite participants from all around the world to employ Google Earth and Google SketchUp to churn out and submit designs for 3D shelters, spread across 100 sq ft, at any location of their choice on the globe. Entries will be accepted between June 8 and August 23, 2009, after which the ten winning entries will be picked out by students of the Frank Lloyd Wright School of Architecture. Internet users will also be invited to vote for their favourite entries between September 7 and October 10, and pick the winners of the People’s Prize. Finally, a jury of architecture and design gurus would examine submissions to determine the recipient of the Juried Prize. The winner will finally be announced on October 21, 2009, which is also the 50th anniversary of the Guggenheim Museum. |
