Construction Industry Development Council (CIDC) is the apex body of the construction industry in India. The council was jointly set up by the Planning Commission, Government of India (GoI) and the construction industry.

CIDC started functioning in full swing from August 1996. Its main objective is to improve the work performance of the construction industry and to generate value-added employment opportunities.

Some of the important projects taken up by CIDC are as follows:

• Standardising the contract conditions for domestic bidding documents
• Computation and publication of construction cost indices
• Development and application of systems for construction financing, banking and taxation
• Establishing a construction equipment bank
• Development of insurance cover/ investments for construction sector projects
