Nepal’s Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation Sharad Singh Bhandari inaugurated the construction of an international airport in Pokhara city, located 200 km west of the capital, Kathmandu. It will be constructed as an alternative to the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu. While the total cost of construction around NPR 50 million, preliminary surveys and grading work would cost around NPR 1.5 million.

Levelling and fencing work for the regional international airport at Chhinedanda, Pokhara is expected to be completed this financial year. The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal has set up a committee to complete the strip area and runway design within the current financial year. The airport will feature a 2,500-metre long and 50-metre wide runway. No construction of physical infrastructure will be permitted for up to 400 metres on the approach side. |
